St. Cloud Metal Roof Installation

As the St. Cloud metal roof installation service provider, we often get asked, “Why choose metal roofs over asphalt roofs?” On average, metal roofs have a lifespan of 40-60 years. It is not unreasonable to expect a metal roof to last longer than that providing it was installed right. In contrast, asphalt roofs typically last between 17-23 years. Think about that for a moment. One could install 2-3 asphalt roofs (possibly more if storm damage was experienced) over a lifetime or one metal roof. Why we say, ‘ one metal roof, one life, one time”.

We install three types of roofs: standing seam, stone-coated steel, and embossed interlocking. Keep reading to learn more details about each of these options below:

Standing seam metal roofs are long,  vertical panels that securely overlap each other seamlessly and then are securely fastened to the roof decking. These roofs are renowned for their exceptional durability. They are available in a variety of gauges – thickness of the steel panel, but one of the most common gauges we use for residential standing seam metal roofs is made from 24 gauge steel coils.

As a local Minnesota-based metal roof contractor near St. Cloud, at AM Burney Exteriors, we fabricate our own panels to achieve a customized fit. This eliminates the need for shipping, resulting in cost savings that we pass on to our clients, and enhances efficiency. In case of any unforeseen damage or missing panels (which can sometimes occur when relying on prefabricated panels from out of state), our agile approach enables us to promptly produce replacement panels without causing delays or interruptions during installation. This advantage saves both time and money. Additionally, standing seam roofs come in a wide range of colors, ensuring they’ll fit with the aesthetic preferences of any homeowner. Also they are available in flat steel panels or striated.

Here’s what to expect from a standing seam roof installation in St. Cloud:

  • 50-year transferable warranties (most varies per metal manufacturer)
  • Resistant to high winds, heavy rains, storms, hail, and snow
  • Class A fire resistant
  • Class 4 hail impact resistant
  • Custom installs to fit any roof design and pitch
  • Lightweight
  • Dirt and stain resistant for long-lasting curb appeal
  • Available in many solid and blended colors
  • Snow slides off – snow retention guards available for safety
  • Return on investment

There are two primary installation methods that we use for attaching standing seam roofs to the roof deck. The hidden fastener system conceals all screws beneath overlapping panels, typically for heated structures like homes or cabins.

If looking for a barn steel roof, some refer to as a tin roof, we do offer barn steel installations. If the structure is unheated we can use- and often do use an exposed fastener system to structures that are unheated. If looking for an estimate on barn steel give us a call. We have done many metal roof barn installations in and around the Twin Cities metro area.

Considering a metal roof but would like a different option than a standing seam roof? Here is an alternative metal roof product that is a good option to consider. Made in the USA, our stone-coated steel roofs mimic the look of other types of traditional roofing like asphalt or cedar shakes. Although the looks may be similar, and they are installed horizontally across the roof deck,  that is where the similarities end when comparing this metal roof shingle to an asphalt shingle. These galvalume steel panels are made of 26 gauge steel that is molded to a variety of profiles which gives them even more additional strength to stand up to hail, or whatever our Minnesota climate throws at them. Compared to traditional roof materials this metal roof shingle goes the distance.

What really sets this stone-coated metal panel apart from other metal roof panels is its patented ventilation system integrated into the design. This innovative feature aids in releasing trapped hot air, a common issue with conventional roof forms. The thermal performance of this roof significantly reduces cooling costs, as heat is expelled more efficiently across the roof deck. A test conducted reveals that while an asphalt shingle attic recorded a temperature of 147 degrees, the stone-coated roofing system showcased a temperature of 89 degrees directly on the deck. This notable difference translates to less heat accumulation on the roof deck and in the attic, reducing reliance on air conditioning and substantial savings on energy bills for our valued customers

This roofing style not only brings a timeless and classic appeal to St. Cloud properties but also provides energy efficiency benefits. With a diverse range of colors and profiles available, our roofs effortlessly elevate the overall visual appeal of any home in St. Cloud.

To further enhance the cohesive appearance of your property, this metal roof line comes with  matching accessories such as pipe sleeves, vents, and sleeves for a comprehensive finished look. Metal Roof FAQs

Is a metal roof noisy?

This is probably the #1 question we as metal roof installers get.  Perhaps you remember standing under a barn, shed or outbuiliding during a rainstorm. In these structures, the steel roof panels are secured directly to the rafters.  There is no sound barrier so it sounded loud when it rained. On a home, townhome or heated commercial facility, the steel panels are fastened to an underlayment, then decking, with insulation under that and a sheet rock ceiling which absorbs and muffles sound.

In addition, and this too helps muffle sound, some metal roofs can be installed over an asphalt roof.  Considering the layer of shingles, roof deck, attic air space, rafters, the insulation, and sheetrock ceiling, individuals who have metal roof say what they hear when it rains is the rain on their skylights and soft metals (gutters), not their metal roof.

Can I walk on my metal roof?

Yes, but like with any roof care should always be taken.

How much does a metal roof cost compared to asphalt roofs?

Initially a metal roof may cost more depending on the type of asphalt shingle you compare it to.  A steel roof will never need to be replaced in your lifetime, lasting 40-80 years (depending on metal type) when compared to asphalt roofs which last about 17-20 years in our climate. If you have hail, wind or storm damage asphalt shingles are more likely to damage when compared to a metal roof. Therefore over a life-time,  a metal roof is less expensive.
