Benefits of East Bethel Metal Roof Installation

Metal roofs have a reputation for being strong and enduring for years. When comparing metal roof to asphalt roof a big benefit, alongside durability and long lasting,  is that they do not rot, crack, warp, or split. Metal roofing stands up to severe weather conditions like heavy rain, snow, hail, and wind.

Metal roofs provide environmental benefits. At the end of their long lifespan, metal roof panels can be recycled, minimizing the strain on landfills.

Metal roofs are lightweight and are more energy efficient than traditional asphalt roofs as they expel summer sun heat faster than asphalt shingles which can save money on household energy bills. Homeowners may also notice a reduction in their energy bills because the roof, roof deck and attic space stays cooler.

Here’s a closer look at the benefits of a metal roof:

  • Unmatched manufacturer warranties
  • Cool-roof technology that reflects sunlight absorbing less heat than traditional roofs
  • UL Class 4 hail impact rating
  • Defies winds up to 120-160 MPH
  • Class A fire rating
  • 100% recyclable at the end of its long, long life
  • No warping, splitting, peeling, or cracking
  • Lower rates on homeowners insurance
  • Withstands frigid Minnesota winters and blistering summers
  • Improved curb appeal
  • Increased resale value
  • Cost-effective – return on investment
  • Ends the re-roofing cycle
  • Peace of mind

AM Burney Exteriors is ready to help any homeowner looking for something different than an asphalt roof and are considering a switch to steel roofing.

Standing seam roofs consist of long vertical metal panels that are fastened side by side to the roof deck. There are two main methods of fastening standing seam roofs to the roof deck: the hidden fastener system, which conceals screws with overlapping panels, typically used in heated structures like homes or cabins, and the exposed fastener system, commonly found in non-heated buildings such as storage facilities, or on barns – commonly known as barn steel –  where the screws are visible.

Standing seam steel panels are available in various gauges, depending on the thickness of the steel 22 gauge, 24 gauge, 26 gauge ( most commonly used). The panels are available in smooth or striated finishes, providing a modern look or a traditional look depending on the architecture of the home. Today standing seam metal roofs come in a wide range of classic colors like black, brown, green, red, and gray. There are multi-colored panels that are exceptionally beautiful. Additionally, advancements in paint technology over the past 30-40 years ensures that the colors remain vibrant throughout the long lifespan of the steel panels.

As a Oak Grove local metal roof contractor, we manufacture our own panels locally, allowing for a custom fit and reducing shipping costs. This practice not only saves money but also saves valuable time during installation. In the rare event of a bent or missing panel (which can occur with prefabricated panels arriving from out of state), we can quickly produce a new panel to eliminate delays or interruptions on installation day. This advantage translates into significant time and cost savings for our clients.

Here’s what to expect from a standing seam steel roof installation in Oak Grove:

  • Resistant to high winds, heavy rains, storms, hail, and snow
  • Class A fire resistant
  • Class 4 hail impact resistant
  • Custom installs to fit any roof design and pitch
  • Lightweight
  • Dirt and stain resistant for long-lasting curb appeal
  • Available in many solid and blended colors
  • 50-year transferable warranties
  • Snow slides off roof – no more shoveling
  • Safety first! Snow retention systems are available in high traffic areas.

If a standing seam roof with its long linear lines is not appealing folks should take a look at this  tone-coated steel roof option. The panels are attached horizontally to the roof deck which provides a totally different metal roof look. Some can’t even believe the roof is made of steel after the installation!

These roofs are available in five profiles, offering a wide range of options to elevate the architectural appeal of any home. The profiles include Cottage Shingle, which mimics the appearance of asphalt shingles; Shake, designed to replicate the charm of hand-split wood shakes; Shingle, a low-profile option with exceptional wind resistance; Barrel Vault, featuring the classic look of barrel Spanish tiles; and Pacific Tile, a medium-profile tile that evokes the style of southern Europe. This steel roofing option comes in various natural, earth-tone solid and blended colors, allowing homeowners to customize their roof’s appearance to their color preferences.

A unique feature of stone-coated metal panels is the patented built-in ventilation system. This innovative design helps release trapped hot air, a common issue with conventional roof types. The improved thermal performance of these roofs leads to reduced cooling costs, as heat is expelled more efficiently across the roof deck. In fact, tests have shown a significant temperature difference, with an asphalt shingle attic reaching 147 degrees compared to a stone-coated roofing system’s attic temperature of 89 degrees. This substantial difference translates to less heat on the roof deck and in the attic, resulting in decreased reliance on air conditioning and savings on energy bills for our valued customers.

Manufactured in the USA from 26-gauge galvalume steel, which offers excellent rust resistance, these stone-coated roofs are impressive. The embossed panels are coated with small stone granules that are applied using a heat-treated acrylic polymer bonding agent. This application process ensures durability, giving the panels a traditional appearance similar to asphalt roofs while retaining the toughness of steel. The panels are so resilient that they come with a Class 4 Hail Impact Resistant rating, the highest in the industry. They are warranted to withstand hail up to 2 ½ inches in diameter and winds up to 120 MPH, providing unparalleled protection for a home.

Metal Roof Installation

Metal Roof FAQs

Is a metal roof noisy?

This is probably the #1 question we as metal roof installers get.  Perhaps you remember standing under a barn, shed or outbuiliding during a rainstorm. In these structures, the steel roof panels are secured directly to the rafters.  There is no sound barrier so it sounded loud when it rained. On a home, townhome or heated commercial facility, the steel panels are fastened to an underlayment, then decking, with insulation under that and a sheet rock ceiling which absorbs and muffles sound.

In addition, and this too helps muffle sound, some metal roofs can be installed over an asphalt roof.  Considering the layer of shingles, roof deck, attic air space, rafters, the insulation, and sheetrock ceiling, individuals who have metal roof say what they hear when it rains is the rain on their skylights and soft metals (gutters), not their metal roof.

Can I walk on my metal roof?

Yes, but like with any roof care should always be taken.

How much does a metal roof cost compared to asphalt roofs?

Initially a metal roof may cost more depending on the type of asphalt shingle you compare it to.  A steel roof will never need to be replaced in your lifetime, lasting 40-80 years (depending on metal type) when compared to asphalt roofs which last about 17-20 years in our climate. If you have hail, wind or storm damage asphalt shingles are more likely to damage when compared to a metal roof. Therefore over a life-time,  a metal roof is less expensive.
