Benefits of White Bear Lake Steel Roof Installation

When looking around for a new metal roof, it’s important for homeowners to know that not all metal roofs are made the same. Different types of metal roofs offer a unique set of benefits, so it’s important for homeowners to be aware of these advantages before choosing one metal roof type. All metal roofing types offer a property value increase, long-lasting protection, and aesthetics. Installing a steel roof for a home comes with various benefits. Our roofing contractors provide not only high-quality service but a variety of features. We primarily offer the following:

  • Unmatched, transferrable manufacturer warranties
  • Cool-roof technology that reflects sunlight and absorbs less heat than traditional roofing materials
  • UL Class 4 hail impact rating
  • Defies winds up to 120-160 MPH
  • Class A fire rating
  • 100% recyclable at end of long, long life
  • No warping, splitting, peeling or cracking
  • Lower rates on homeowners insurance
  • Withstands frigid Minnesota winters and blistering summers
  • Resale value
  • Curb appeal
  • Cost effective
  • Peace of mind

So, if interested in hiring a metal roofing contractor for a metal roof  home improvement project, AM Burney Exteriors offers an assortment of services aside from metal roofing. Since our start in 2009, our goal has been to provide top-notch roofing for our Twin Cities Metro area residents.

When selecting an ideal type of roofing system for a home, one solution would be installing a standing seam metal roof. Standing seam refers to long ribbed metal panels vertically connected with a hidden fastener system. How a standing seam roof works is that the hidden fastener system securely locks the panels to the roof decking, keeping it in place with no exposed fasteners (screws) showing. The overlapping hidden fastener systems all ensure a weathertight application.

Another type of roofing that can be implemented on our Minnesota roofs, is stone-coated steel. Although it may not look like a steel roof due to the tough, stone coated covering which resembles that of an asphalt shake, rest assured these steel roofing panels are tough – steel tough. The panels are composed of 26 gauge embossed steel (embossment gives added strength) that are covered with stone chips that have been immersed in a polymer acrylic that is then heat-activated – baked – onto the steel panel.

Oftentimes, our clients are looking for a metal roof that looks like an asphalt roof. This is the roof that does offer a profile similar to an architectural asphalt shingle but with excellent features includes the following:

120 MPH wind rating (ideal for handling hostile winds or heavy storms)
Energy efficient due to above sheathing ventilation
Minimal maintenance
Lightweight to manage -1.5 lbs per sq. ft.
Cost effective
50 year warranty

Stone-coated steel roofing is a popular option if looking for a different style of roof that balances efficiency and natural beauty in one bundle. This roofing type is also great for homeowners with multiple buildings on their property or any commercial building owner looking to make the switch to metal roofing and a roof that offers a return on investment.

Another type of steel roofing, aside from a standing seam metal roof, is an embossed interlocking metal. Its design provides a sleek, multi-tone look and shadow lines. If there is interest in customizing this component for a home, it does come in 12 assorted colors and two profile options: shake or slate. The interlocking metal roofing is great for White Bear Lake homes that experience high wind gusts during bad storms. This roof can withstand wind gusts up to 160 MPH. Even better, the unique embossing pattern on this roof adds a whole new level of luxurious curb appeal to homes it’s installed on.

Metal Roof FAQs

Is a metal roof noisy?

This is probably the #1 question we as metal roof installers get.  Perhaps you remember standing under a barn, shed or outbuiliding during a rainstorm. In these structures, the steel roof panels are secured directly to the rafters.  There is no sound barrier so it sounded loud when it rained. On a home, townhome or heated commercial facility, the steel panels are fastened to an underlayment, then decking, with insulation under that and a sheet rock ceiling which absorbs and muffles sound.

In addition, and this too helps muffle sound, some metal roofs can be installed over an asphalt roof.  Considering the layer of shingles, roof deck, attic air space, rafters, the insulation, and sheetrock ceiling, individuals who have metal roof say what they hear when it rains is the rain on their skylights and soft metals (gutters), not their metal roof.

Can I walk on my metal roof?

Yes, but like with any roof care should always be taken.

How much does a metal roof cost compared to asphalt roofs?

Initially a metal roof may cost more depending on the type of asphalt shingle you compare it to.  A steel roof will never need to be replaced in your lifetime, lasting 40-80 years (depending on metal type) when compared to asphalt roofs which last about 17-20 years in our climate. If you have hail, wind or storm damage asphalt shingles are more likely to damage when compared to a metal roof. Therefore over a life-time,  a metal roof is less expensive.
